Internal/Lateral Transfer

Organization-directed transfer

In circumstances where an employee is transferred to a new department or new role due to reorganization, changes in workload, work scheduling, or reassignment of duties, and the transfer is intended to be a continuing assignment, the employee’s personnel record will be changed to reflect title, department, and supervisory change as of the effective date of the transfer.

Procedures

  • Consult with HR Employee Relations prior to any organization-directed transfer to discuss the business case, rationale for making the transfer, and any other relevant employee or departmental issues. HR Compensation will be consulted should a decision need made on the appropriate classification and compensation of the position.
  • Make recommendation to your Dean/Vice President.
  • Approval of any organization-directed transfer is made by the appropriate Vice President/Dean/Provost after consideration of Wright State University’s commitment to affirmative action using information provided by the Office of Equity & Inclusion.
  • If your recommendation is approved by your Dean/VP, initiate a position posting in PeopleAdmin. When creating the posting, select 'Internal/Lateral Transfer' option.
  • If the position is approved by all parties, submit the below to Human Resources:

Employee-requested transfer

Any employee may request a transfer to a vacancy in a different position within his/her department by written request to the supervisor/manager/department chair. The request must be accompanied by an employee’s resume and relevant supporting documentation. The employee should outline how his or her background matches with the qualifications and duties of the vacancy.

Procedures

    • Personnel Action Form (PAF)
    • Copy of offer letter
    • Employee's resume and any relevant supporting documentation, including his/her outline of qualifications and background as they relate to the position.

**Note** Internal/Lateral transfers otherwise covered in collective bargaining agreements will be conducted in a manner consistent with the agreement.
