A qualifying life event in terms of your benefits means, you can update your benefit enrollments without having to wait for the next open enrollment period. Within thirty-one (31) days of experiencing a qualifying life event, you may be eligible to make consistent changes to your benefits. HIPAA Special Enrollment Rights
HIPAA offers protections for workers and their families. The law provides additional opportunities to enroll in a group health plan if you or your dependents lose coverage or experience certain life events. In the event of a divorce, a dependent reaches age 26, or a spouse is no longer eligible for coverage, the impacted dependent’s employer (or the Health Insurance Marketplace) is required to allow enrollment within 30 days of the event under this provision.
