Exporting Your Web Browser Bookmarks
Before your computer is replaced or updated, please export and save any important browser bookmarks to your network H:\ drive. Saving files to your H:\ drive ensures they remain accessible from any university computer you log into using your W# credentials, including when connected through the VPN.
Google Chrome
- Open Chrome.
- In the upper-right corner, select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
- In the Bookmark Manager, select the three-dot menu again.
- Click Export Bookmarks.
- Save the exported file to your H:\ Drive.
Mozilla Firefox
- Open Firefox.
- Select the Library button, then choose Bookmarks.
- Scroll down and select Show All Bookmarks.
- In the Library window, select Import and Backup from the toolbar.
- Choose Export Bookmarks to HTML.
- Save the exported file to your H:\ Drive.
Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Select the Favorites/Star icon in the upper-right corner.
- In the Favorites window, select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Export Favorites.
- Save the exported file to your H:\ Drive.
Backing Up Local Files
Files saved directly to your computer’s local C:\ drive will not automatically transfer to a new device. Before your computer is replaced or serviced, please copy any important files to your H:\ drive.
Your H:\ drive is available through File Explorer and can be accessed from any university computer when logged in with your W# credentials. It is also accessible while connected to the university VPN.
Common Locations to Review
Please check the following locations for files you may want to keep:
- Desktop
- Documents
- Downloads
- Music
- Pictures
- Videos
Moving Files to Your H:\ Drive
- Open File Explorer.
- Navigate to the folder containing your files.
- Select the files or folders you would like to keep.
- Copy the selected items.
- Open your H:\ drive in File Explorer.
- Paste the files into the desired folder on your H:\ drive.
Taking a few minutes to back up bookmarks and local files can help prevent accidental data loss and ensure a smoother transition to your updated computer.
