FileLocker is a secure file sharing application originally developed by Purdue University that allows you to securely share files with other people, both inside and outside of the university. The files are stored for a temporary amount of time (typically 30 days), and are then deleted from the system. Files are encrypted both while in storage on the system and during transfer.
- FileLocker should not be used as a permanent storage solution; files will automatically expire and delete after 30 days.
- An email message will be generated from firstname.lastname@example.org and sent to the person whom you shared the file with.
- You must log in to FileLocker with your campus "w"username and password.
- If you are suspicious of a file that comes from FileLocker, feel free to contact the Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 before downloading it.

- Go to fl1.wright.edu
- Enter your CAMPUS account and password, and click Login
- A file list will appear under "Files Shared with You", including the expiration date
- Click the blue down arrow to the right of the file
- A pop-up area will appear allowing you to see the sender. You can read any notes by clicking on "View File Notes"
- Click the "Download This File" button
- On Windows, you should get a pop up window that allows you to save the file to your machine. You can choose to open it with an application or click "Save File" to download it. It will save it in the default Download file specified by your browser
- If you are on a Mac, the file may automatically go to your download folder
- Once downloaded, the file may have several days to expire and disappear from your "Files Shared with You" area. You can right click on the blue arrow to the right and "Hide This Share". It should go away from your active list
- Click the Upload button, located in the upper-left of the screen, just below the FileLocker logo
- By default, the file expiration date is set 30 days into the future. This is the date the file will automatically delete from the system. If you would like the file to expire sooner, you may change the date in the "Expiration Date" box
- You may add notes about the file in the "Add Notes to File" box
- In "Other Options", the option to scan for viruses is already selected. The system will check your file for viruses prior to uploading
- Click the "Browse and Upload" box to select the file you'd like to upload to the system
- Once selected, the file will upload to FileLocker, and FileLocker will perform a quick virus scan and encrypt the file
- The file will now be listed under "Uploaded Files" on your FileLocker home screen
- The user(s) that you want to share a file with must have previously logged into FileLocker. If they have not, either request that they do or use the "Sharing Files with Non-Wright State Users" directions in the next section
- Click the down arrow to the right of the file you want to share, a drop-down menu will appear
- Click the "Share This File" button that appears at the bottom of the drop-down menu
- Click the down arrow to the right of the file you want to share; a drop-down menu will appear.
- Check the box next to 'Public Share'
- Enter the email addresses of the people you want to share the file with
- Select 'Share'
Note: Following the steps above will send a one-time link to the email addresses you entered. Once they have opened the link, they must download the document in order to review it later. If you select the 'Allow multiple downloads (requires password)?' box, they will be able to access it more than once with a password you have set. If you select 'Password protect this public share?' you will once again set a password, yet they can still only access the document once from the link they receive through email.
