Dan Noel, Ph.D.
Get to Know your EQ: Effectively Reading & Responding to Those Around You
How well do you think you can ‘read a room’ or pick up on and understand the emotional cues of others? Why would this even be important? Reading and understanding emotional cues is one of the most critical elements of leading and influencing others. Dealing effectively with emotions (ours and others) is important to the human condition. Take with journey with Dan Noel in exploring how aspects of emotional intelligence can strengthen your professional and personal relationships.
Dan Noel is passionate about helping leaders grow; promoting areas of leadership and leadership development. The decades spanning his career have included various leadership positions in higher education, developing and directing community mental health programs as a licensed practitioner, and serving in pastoral church ministry. Dan has been a presenter at regional and international conferences, and has facilitated leadership training for many organizational groups, including sales, health care, human resources, church denominations, higher education, and various non-profits. He currently serves as a Senior Lecturer and Program Director of the Organizational Leadership degree at Wright State University, teaching both undergraduates and graduate students. Dan holds various degrees in leadership, psychology, counseling, and instructional design. He is also certified as an Instructor for Gallup Strengths and certified to administer and interpret the Group Development Questionnaire (GDQ). He directs Community-Based Learning for the Department of Leadership Studies in Education and Organizations, providing supervision for students who serve at various non-profit organizations and agencies.

The 5 Habits of Resilience
Breakout Sessions 1 and 5
Presenter: Seth Gordon, Ph.D., Director, Veteran and Military Center
Stress at work is inevitable. During this session, we will review 5 habits that you can cultivate to improve your resilience which we are defining as your capacity to recover from setbacks, failure, adversity, or trauma. These strategies include making to-do lists, journaling, exercising self-compassion, engaging in physical activity, and practicing mindfulness through meditation. All of these are in service of improving your ability to recharge through sleep, rest, and other activities. Participants will be provided with a list of resources to assist in each of these activities.
Allyship in Action: Supporting Multicultural Communities Across Campus
Breakout Sessions 2 and 5
Presenter: Emily Yantis-Houser, Assistant Director, LGBTQA Center and Advisor & Adjunct Faculty, Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies
This program provides knowledge about intersectional identities and allyship skills to grow the network of support for multicultural communities across campus, especially our students. Participants will be able to define the concepts of allyship and social justice work, examine intersections of identity and how they can apply their allyship skills to working with different communities, and gain knowledge of the plethora of services and resources available to the campus community through the Division of Inclusive Excellence and the Culture & Identity Centers.
Boundary Setting: Building Healthy Skills

Presenter: Holly Brown, IMPACT Solutions (EAP)
Poor boundaries can affect individuals negatively in their personal lives and professional environments. This session will help us to understand what boundaries are and how to set healthy boundaries, leading to feeling more empowered in our environment. Become more comfortable expressing what your boundaries are, and how powerful this activity can be. In addition, you will learn how to become aware of others’ boundaries as well.

Are you frustrated by the lack of functionality in the reports that your financial system is capable of producing that restricts your ability to summarize and analyze data? Do you need to transform thousands of rows of data from different sources into a summary report that can be used to help make solid informed decisions? This session will take you from novice to ninja and teach you how powerful Pivot Tables are and how they can be used to analyze, sort, merge, filter, and present data in a more understandable way with much less work required.

Social Security 101 WEP and GPO Overview

Presenter: Theresa Busher, Social Security Public Affairs Specialist
When you don't pay Social Security FICA taxes on your employment AND you are eligible for Social Security retirement from other work – your Social Security may be reduced with the Windfall Elimination Provision, or WEP. Additionally, non-FICA taxed employment may reduce your Social Security spouses or widows or widowers benefits through Government Pension Offset, or GPO. Join Social Security Public Affairs Specialist Theresa Busher for an overview of qualifying for Social Security retirement, spouse, and widow/er benefits, and how WEP and GPO rules may affect you.
Stress Relief for Family Caregivers

Presenter: Judith Eugene, IMPACT Solutions (EAP)
Family caregivers are often pulled in many directions, trying to care for the special needs of an aging parent or disabled child while at the same time caring for spouses and other children. This leaves little time or energy to care for themselves. Participants will learn techniques to help them stay healthy, peaceful, and balanced. We will discuss how to alleviate stress through various holistic health care modalities, breathing techniques, gratitude journaling, positive thinking, and empowering speech. We will learn ways to deal with challenging situations and people, and the important role of healthy eating and proper personal care. We will practice a short meditation technique at the end of the presentation.

Join the IR&E staff for a quick review of the dashboards--what's available, how to access it, and how to use it. There will also be a discussion of dashboards in development. Laptops will be provided, so come ready to slice and dice the data!
