Phishing Scam Notice for 5/18/15

The Help Desk was recently notified of an email phishing scam that 
targets Wright State students, faculty, and staff. This scam, which may 
have a subject line titled "Part-Time Job Opportunity", encourages you 
to participate in online surveys by clicking on a link.

Please be aware that this is a scam. Do not click on the link provided 
in the email or give out any personal information.

Adobe Software and New Self-Service Process

CaTS is excited to announce that several software packages are now available to faculty and staff at no charge for use on university-owned computers. CaTS has also implemented a new self-service process to distribute this software, through the utilization of Software Center.


Available Software

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 11
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, etc.)


Coming Soon

  • Microsoft Office, SAS, SPSS, STATA, and MatLab


Software Center

  • Software Center allows for self-service software installations.
  • Software Center allows CaTS to report usage of software to optimize licensing costs.


Windows users: Software Center is now available.

  • To determine if you have Software Center, go to your 'Start' menu, select 'All Programs', and Software Center will be listed if available.
  • If you don't see Software Center on your Windows PC, please call the Help Desk for assistance with installing the software.


Mac users: Software Center for Mac is coming soon; in the mean time, please call the Help Desk for assistance with installing the software.

Microsoft Lync Now Skype for Business

Microsoft Lync will become Skype for Business on all university-owned
Windows computers connected to the Wright State network on Monday, May 18.

-Skype for Business will install automatically on your computer.

-Skype for Business combines the functionality of Lync with the Skype
interface.

-Familiar features like video chat, instant messaging, and desktop
sharing are available in Skype.

-All of your Lync contacts will be available in Skype for Business.

-Skype for Business is not yet available for Macs. Please continue to
use Microsoft Lync 2011 until further notice.

Pilot Server Maintenance

New WINGS Portal

A new version of WINGS will launch this summer.

You will have access to both the existing WINGS portal (Classic WINGS)
and the new WINGS (Beta) through the summer and into Fall Semester, but
start planning for changes that affect you, especially with the
following applications:

- Course Studio, Group Studio, and Classic WINGS will be retired by the
end of the calendar year. Faculty using Course Studio should contact
Cheryl Silcox (x3245) in the Center for Teaching and Learning for
assistance in transitioning to Pilot.

- Active WINGS Groups should be transitioned into an Office 365 Online
Community. Learn your options at
https://www.wright.edu/information-technology/services/online-communities

- Content that needs to be saved from an inactive WINGS Group should be
manually downloaded to your computer. It will no longer be available
once Classic WINGS is retired.

- There is no automated process for downloading or transitioning content.

Office 365 ProPlus Now Free for Faculty/Staff Personal Use

Wright State faculty and staff will have free access to Microsoft Office
365 ProPlus starting on April 22, 2015.

*Important Notes*
- Software should not be installed on university-owned computers
- Uninstall any copies of Office before installing ProPlus

Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus includes
•      Word
•      Excel
•      PowerPoint
•      Outlook
•      Lync (transitioning to Skype for Business)
•      OneNote
•      Publisher
•      Access

Users can access all of these programs on up to five personally-owned PCs or Macs, five tablets, and up to five mobile devices.

April 2015 Microsoft Lync Update

The recent April 14, 2015 Microsoft Update included an update for
Microsoft Lync 2013 which replaces the Lync user interface with
Microsoft’s new Skype for Business application. If you have applied the
update and use Lync with the WSU service, you will be prompted to
restart, returning the Lync user interface which Wright State currently
supports. Note:  The icon for Lync will now show a S.

have a subject line titled "You received a voice mail", encourages you
to click on a link in order to download a voice message, and appears to
be from Outlook.

Please be aware that this is a scam. Do not click on the link provided
in the email or give out your username and password.

Wireless Maintenance Message

Network maintenance is going to be done next Tuesday morning April 21st
from 6:00am – 7:00am on the campus wireless network.  There will be no
wireless connectivity on main campus while the maintenance is being
performed.

Office 365 Sites Training

CaTS is offering training workshops for owners and users of Office 365
Sites. Sites are built using Microsoft SharePoint Online.

•       Owner sessions include instructions on how to create and maintain
         Office 365 Sites.
•       User sessions focus on accessing and working with data stored in Sites.
