Email Impersonation Scam Notice

CaTS has seen a recent increase in the number of email impersonation attempts at the University.

A number of the reported emails begin with 'Urgent Request' in the message subject line.

Impersonation emails appear to be coming from a Wright State individual, but are actually coming from an outside email service such as Gmail.

Please make sure that you check the email address the message is coming from, and verify with the actual Wright State employee if there is a question if they actually sent it. If you ever have concerns or questions, please forward the message to the CaTS Help Desk at helpdesk@wright.edu

Verizon Cell Service Improvements on Campus

CaTS is happy to announce that we've completed the year long project with Verizon to improve cell service throughout the Dayton Campus!

This project consisted of the installation of a new Verizon cell tower on Oelman Hall, and a Distributed Antenna System (DAS). The DAS allows for improved Verizon cellular coverage in the tunnels and building lower levels!

The entire cost of this project was funded by Verizon. All Verizon customers are now able to take advantage of improved access to the Verizon network while on campus. 

Summer/Fall Classroom Technology Needs

Do you need specialized classroom software?

As a reminder, if you need specialized software installed in your classroom for the Summer or Fall Semesters, we need your request submitted to helpdesk@wright.edu no later than April 12th. Do you need training on classroom equipment?

If you would like training on the use of any technology available in your classroom, CaTS can help. To schedule one-on-one classroom training, fill out the Classroom Training request at https://wrightstate.service-now.com/sp?id=wsu_sc_cat_item&sys_id=3f822ea.... A CaTS training representative will contact you shortly thereafter.

If you plan to use NetSupport School, Apple TV, or Panopto lecture capture, the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) can provide training on how to effectively incorporate these services into your course. The CTL also provides NetSupport School and teaching untethered workshops throughout the academic year. For a list of workshops and training videos, visit the CTL's website at www.wright.edu/ctl/. 

Are you teaching an IVDL course?

If you plan to use our Interactive Video Distance Learning (IVDL) classrooms to simultaneously teach a class to students on both Dayton Campus and Lake Campus, CaTS recommends you attend a brief training session on using this technology. About macOS Upgrades

macOS Monterey (12.0)

macOS Monterey (12.0) was released on October 25, 2021. Monterey is currently available in Casper if you are interested in updating your Mac device to this operating system. More information about Casper can be found here: Casper: Self-Service Software Installation for Macs.

macOS Big Sur (11.0)

macOS Big Sur (10.16) was released in late 2020. CaTS is still in the process of testing standard software used around campus and in computer labs. Please note that Big Sur has some known compatibility issues with certain University services.

macOS Catalina (10.15)

macOS Catalina (10.15) was released on Monday, October 7, 2019. CaTS is still in the process of testing standard software used around campus and in computer labs. Please note that Catalina has some known compatibility issues with certain University services.

macOS Mojave (version 10.14)

macOS Mojave (version 10.14) is the fifteenth major release of macOS, Apple's desktop operating system for Macintosh computers. macOS Mojave (10.14) was released on Monday, September 24, 2018. CaTS has completed testing Mojave with the standard software used around campus and in computer labs.

Compatibility Issues

Please note that Mojave has some known compatibility issues with certain University services.

  • Banner 8 Admin is incompatible with Mojave due to issues with Java. Banner 9 Admin is now the recommended software to use for University purposes.
  • Older versions of Matlab are not supported on Mojave. Matlab customers need to ensure they are on 2018b release or higher. 
  • Mojave will convert your hard drive (SSDs, Fusion Drives, and Hard Disk Drives) to the new Apple File System (APFS).
  • Apple TVs generation 3 or earlier may not be compatible with Mojave. If you plan on using your own Apple device in a classroom managed by CaTS, you may experience audio issues. Getting Started

macOS Mojave (version 10.14)

CaTS is now officially supporting macOS Mojave. If you are interested in upgrading to macOS Mojave, we recommend you first review our Software Compatibility list for known issues. If you currently use Matlab, we recommend you wait until January before upgrading to macOS Mojave.

Before you upgrade to Mojave, make sure your computer and all software are compatible with this version. If you have any questions, contact the CaTS Help Desk at 937-775-4827, or helpdesk@wright.edu

System Requirements 

You will need one of the following models in order to run macOS Mojave:

  • MacBook (early 2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • Mac Mini (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • iMac (late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac Pro (all models)

Recommended Minimum Hardware:

  • 20 GB of free space
  • 4 GB minimum memory

How to Upgrade

Before you upgrade, we recommend you backup your Mac by copying your Documents folder to an external drive

Download macOS Mojave and follow the onscreen instructions to begin your upgrade

If you have OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) or an older version, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to at least macOS 10.12 (Sierra). Apple will most likely stop providing software upgrades or critical security updates for OS X 10.11 and older versions soon.

Adobe CC & OnTheHub Updates

CaTS is excited to announce an agreement has been reached regarding personal Adobe Creative Cloud software purchases through our online software store, OnTheHub. Below is important information regarding accessing OnTheHub and Adobe Creative Cloud purchases.

Accessing OnTheHub

OnTheHub has been integrated with our Single Sign On service and no longer requires a separate account. To log in:

  1. Visit wright.onthehub.com
  2. Log in with your campus 'w' username and password

Important Notes:

  • All purchases will be transferred to your new account once this change has been made. For more information about OnTheHub, visit our Personal Purchases page. 
  • Some users may have both a Student and Faculty/Staff role in OnTheHub. If you are a faculty or staff member and also see the Student tab at the top of the page, make sure the Faculty/Staff tab is selected before purchasing any software.

Faculty/Staff

Adobe Creative Cloud Purchases for Students, Faculty, and Staff

Adobe Creative Cloud is now available to purchase for personal use by all active Wright State students, faculty, and staff. An annual subscription to Creative Cloud can be purchased through OnTheHub at a discounted rate for personal and home use.

Retirees, Emeritus Faculty and former employees are now eligible for software purchases through OnTheHub. Additionally, College Credit Plus students are not eligible to purchase Adobe Creative Cloud, however other software through OnTheHub is available to them.

Important Note: CaTS is aware that some faculty, staff, and students are in a contract subscription with Adobe for Adobe Creative Cloud programs at $20/month. For more information on how to opt out of that subscription, please see the Personal Adobe Creative Cloud Contract Information article. 

Purchasing and Installing Adobe Creative Cloud

  1. Log in to wright.onthehub.com with your campus 'w' username and password
  2. Search and select Adobe Creative Cloud
  3. Review the price and select Add to Cart
  4. Review your Shopping Cart and select Check Out
  5. You will be directed to a page that gives you details about your Adobe subscription, including the email address you will use to sign in to Adobe, and the date your subscription is good until. Click Install.
  6. Open the download file and click Sign In. Select Enterprise ID if prompted. Enter your Wright State email address; you will then be redirected back to the Wright State log in screen. Enter your campus 'w' username and password.
  7. Follow the steps to finish the installation process for Adobe Creative Cloud

Adobe Creative Cloud Work Purposes vs Home Use Purposes

Software purchased via OnTheHub is for personal/home use only. Wright State faculty and staff can install Adobe Creative Cloud on university-owned machines for free through Software Center (Windows PCs) and Casper (Mac OS).

CaTS will soon be preparing our electronic classrooms for the 2019 Summer and Fall Semesters. If you need specialized software installed in your classroom for the Summer or Fall Semesters, we need your request submitted to us no later than April 12th, 2019.

Emergency Wireless Maintenance for 3/7

Wright1 Card Outage for Wednesday, 3/6

The Wright1 Card system will be unavailable during the following times due to system maintenance:

Date: Wednesday, March 6th
Time: 12 a.m. - 7 p.m.

During this time, access to the following Wright1 Card services will be unavailable:

  • Online deposits and account statements
  • Sales at off-campus and on-campus merchants (Union Market will be open and accepting cash/credit card)
  • Wright1 and credit card swipes at campus vending machines
  • All pay-for-print card swipes at printing stations, copiers, and laundry (does not include Xerox printer card swipes)

During this time, the Wright1 Card office in E238 Student Union will also be closed.

Phishing Scam for 3/1

The Help Desk was recently notified of an email phishing scam that targets Wright State students. The email claims your campus 'w' username is going to be deactivated upon your request, and to click on a link to cancel the request. Please note that this is a scam; do NOT click on any links or enter your Wright State credentials.
