Electronic Drawing Requirements
It is the purpose of this document to provide direction to each facility design consultant (referred to hereafter as the Consultant) performing work for Wright State University (referred to hereafter as the University). The requirements contained herein relate to the work of generating electronic drawing files and the submission of such work in electronic format to the University.
1. The Generation of Electronic Drawings
1.1
Nominal dimensions are to be avoided in the generation of electronic drawings. Specifically, all walls will be drawn to the width of the actual building materials to the nearest 1/8 inch. For instance, a wall constructed of 3-5/8 inch metal studs with 5/8 inch gypsum board on each side will be drawn to be 4-7/8 inches thick, and a nominal 8 inch block wall will be drawn to its actual measurement of 7-5/8 inches thick.
2. Delivery/Submittal of Electronic Drawings
2.1
During the life of the design and construction project, it will be necessary for the University to request from the Consultant copies of various portions of plans in electronic format to enable the University to plan and coordinate construction.
2.2
All electronic drawings delivered by the Consultant to the University shall be in an AutoCAD DWG file of the version required in the owner/consultant contract or in a format approved by the University. Data Interchange Files (DXF files) will not be accepted as an alternate.
2.3
If another computer aided drafting and design program other than AutoCAD is used to generate the project drawings, the Consultant shall be responsible for all conversion procedures necessary to generate the AutoCAD files for delivery to the University. The Consultant shall also be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and inclusion of all items within the drawings during any translation process.
2.4
At the end of the project, regardless of the process used to generate the original electronic drawings—that is, the use of cross reference files, paper space, or other drawing organization tools—the contents of each sheet in the project plan set shall be written to a separate electronic drawing file and delivered to the University by the Consultant. Each electronic drawing file shall have all the information included in it as shown on the respective sheets in the plotted plan set. All layers in each drawing shall be visible with no extraneous information showing. Unused layers and blocks shall be purged from the drawing file. Each respective drawing file will be named to relate to its sheet number within the plan set—for example, the electronic drawing file for the sheet numbered A1.1 shall be named "A1-1.DWG".
2.5
All electronic drawings submitted by the Consultant shall contain only text created with the standard AutoCAD font set contained in the base AutoCAD program. Text created with "Third Party" proprietary fonts shall not be used in the generation of electronic drawings.
