Academic Support for Residents

PALs and Scholar in Residence

Residential Peer Academic Leaders

Responsibilities

Residential Peer Academic Leaders (PALs) live in Hamilton, Honors, and the Woods. They hold office hours and study tables for residential students to access one-on-one academic support and group study sessions and host fun events right where you live!

PALs create programs and academic initiatives that align with Residence Life's programmatic goals and the goals of collaborating Colleges. This includes bulletin boards, virtual content, community programming, and other initiatives related to each PAL's academic focus and general student success. PALs collaborate with Resident Assistants (RAs) and Residential Organizations to provide opportunities for connection and further resources.

PALs also hold weekly office hours and study tables (5 hours) in your assigned community office/lounge, advertising so students can stop by for help one-on-one or in a group setting. PALs are happy to refer students to other campus resources that may be useful, including tutoring services, the Student Success Center, and the Counseling and Wellness Center.

Each PAL offers weekly office hours to support residential students. You can find a list of your PAL’s office hours on their office door and/or posted around your halls. Find the office locations below:

Scholar in Residence

Scholar in Residence Responsibilities

The Scholar-in-Residence program is designed to enhance students’ academic engagement beyond the classroom, foster meaningful connections between students, faculty, and staff, and support a holistic approach to student learning and development.

The Scholar-in-Residence plays a key role in advancing the university’s educational mission and enriching the residential experience, and commits five to six hours per week to student interaction through office hours, programming, and informal conversations. The programming led by the Scholar-in-Residence includes a wide range of opportunities for students to connect, reflect, and grow. These may include dinners with deans, fireside chats, guest lectures, community service initiatives, and excursions to different locations in the greater Dayton area. These meaningful experiences are designed to spark conversation, build community, and encourage students to grow both personally and intellectually beyond the classroom

Scholar in Residence Office Hours & Support

The Scholar in Residence holds 3-5 office hours each week. Their office is located in Honors Hall on the 3rd floor- right next to the main entrance of the building.
