Steven Swedlund, M.D.The WSU Retirees Association Presents:

As We Age: Guidance from a Geriatrician

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, March 9, 10-11:30 a.m., for a Zoom meeting you won’t want to miss. Steven Swedlund, M.D., program director for the Geriatrics Fellowship Program and an assistant professor of geriatrics at Boonshoft School of Medicine, will share his expertise on the issues many of us face as we age.

Geriatric medicine is a subspecialty of internal medicine or family medicine that deals with the complex medical and psychosocial problems of older adults. Geriatricians address the physical, mental and social conditions in acute, chronic, rehabilitative, preventive, and end of life care for older patients. Dr. Swedlund has more than 40 years’ experience as a geriatrician.

Some questions we have asked Dr. Swedlund to address include:

  • What criteria should we use to transition to senior housing or assisted living from our family home?
  • Should we take supplements? If so, which ones?
  • How important is exercise, and what should we focus on?
  • How should we manage medical care that involves primary care physicians and specialists?
  • How can we determine if our symptoms might be caused by the interaction between multiple prescriptions?

As We Age: Guidance from a Geriatrician is free and open to all, but you must register in advance. RSVP by noon on Tuesday, March 8, by sending email to wsura@wright.edu with your full name and we will send you a link to access the discussion. Let us know if you have any questions for Dr. Swedlund.
