The WSU Retirees Association presents:

Communication information about disinformation: Where we stood and where we stand

Melissa SpirekThe WSU Retirees Association will host a presentation on disinformation and misinformation on Monday, March 6, from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., in the Bill Shepard Board Room of the Foundation Building. The discussion will be led by Melissa Spirek, Ph.D., a professor of communication in WSU’s School of Social Sciences and International Studies who works with Premier Health Systems and is grant-writing certified by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. She will share a communication framework for investigating disinformation from the sender and receiver’s perspective. A question and answer period will follow her talk.

Professor Spirek has received more than 20 international and national awards for her scholarship on affective responses to mediated messages. On July 13, 2019, Dr. Spirek’s project premiered to honor the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s landing on the moon. With a grant from American Experience’s Chasing the Moon, she researched and wrote One Small Step, One Small Town: Neil Armstrong. This project emerged when she worked on her MIT certification in science and communication.

This presentation is free and open to the public, but you must register by Friday, March 3, by sending your full name and the name(s) of any guests you plan to bring to wsura@wright.edu. Please include “Disinformation” in the email subject line. The WSU Foundation Building is located at 3070 Presidential Drive, across the street from the main campus. Free parking is available near the building.
