Psychology Department Brown Bag: "A Dynamical Model of Cognition"

Abstract: A multi-layered, nested control system will be presented to account for how individuals and organizations adapt to complex ecologies. This model was inspired by observations of emergency response organizations. However, the case will be made that it captures critical aspects of the adaptive capacities of all cognitive systems. The foundations of the model in pragmatism, ecological psychology, and military doctrine on command and control will be considered.
