Award Descriptions

Nominations for the 2019 Student Leadership Awards are now closed!

Rising Star Award

This award will be given to an undergraduate (1st or 2nd year) student who has shown dedication to involvement in campus life and who has demonstrated initiative, motivation, and potential for student leadership at Wright State University.

Visionary Leadership Award

This award will be given to any student who strives for creating a vision for an organization, while establishing personal or professional goals.  Please highlight how the student has begun to achieve those goals through their involvement on campus and in the community.

Sustainability Leadership Award

This award will be given to any student who has shown sustained leadership by consistently supporting their student organizations’ programs and initiatives, mentoring future student leaders, and/or continuing to develop their own leadership competencies.  Provide specific examples as to how the student has fostered upcoming leaders, sustained their organization, and/or developed personally.

Senior Student Leader Award

This award will be given to any student graduating who has shown exemplary leadership qualities over the last academic year through student organizations, service to the community, scholarship or commitment to the advancement of the mission and goals of Wright State University.

Open To: Any student graduating during the 2018-2019 academic year (May 2019 or December 2018), and demonstrates progressive leadership responsibility in a student organization, campus department, or office. 

Graduate Student Leader Award

This award is given to a specific graduate student who has shown exemplary leadership qualities over the last academic year through student organizations, service to the community, scholarship or commitment to the advancement of the mission and goals of Wright State University.

Open To: Any graduate student who has demonstrated leadership skills and responsibility in a student organization, campus department, or office.

Advisor of the Year Award

This award is given to an advisor of a recognized student organization who has gone above the minimum requirements of an advisor.  This person has been a role model, student support source, and a guiding individual for student leadership.  Please provide specific examples as to how they have been dedicated to providing advice, support, and encouragement for their student organization in implementing goals and the mission of the group.

Open To: Any advisor of a recognized student organization.

Building Bridges Award

This award will be given to a faculty or staff member who has gone above and beyond by working collaboratively with student organizations, campus leaders, offices, or departments to move student life forward at Wright State University.  Please highlight how specifically this individual has built bridges across campus and the impact their efforts have made.

Student Organization Collaboration Award

This award will be given to an organization that has demonstrated outstanding initiatives through a commitment to collaborative programming, financial stewardship, and community outreach throughout the academic year.  Articulate the significant contributions the organization has made to Wright State University and the community as a direct result of their collaborative initiatives. Please include any events, service activities, or programs that the organization collaborated on and the role they played in the process.

Open To: Any recognized student organization by the Office of Student Activities.

Student Organization Diversity & Inclusion Award

This award will be given to an organization that has demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and transformation initiatives for Wright State University and the community. Articulate the significant contributions the organization has made to Wright State University and the community in an effort to support being more responsive to the needs of underrepresented and underserved student populations.

Open To: Any recognized student organization by the Office of Student Activities.

Student Organization Community Service Award

This award will be given to an organization that has a demonstrated commitment to the betterment of the community through outreach, programming, education or volunteerism in the greater Dayton area.  Please highlight what significant contributions the organization has made to greater Dayton community.

Open To: Any recognized student organization by the Office of Student Activities.

Student Organization Program of the Year Award

This award will be given to a student organization that has sponsored a creative, effective, and impactful on-campus program that is open to the entire student body, promoting an educational and social experience, and building campus community in a fun and innovative manner. 

Open To: Any recognized student organization by the Office of Student Activities.

Student Organization of the Year Award

This award will be given to an outstanding organization that has made significant contributions to the Wright State University Community. Please highlight how the organization has set goals and furthers its mission through its work demonstrating the initiative to further advance the collegiate experience and how the organization has gone above and beyond through programming, service, and leadership.  Articulate how the organization has raised the bar for other student groups and strives for excellence in all of its endeavors.

Open To: Any recognized student organization by the Office of Student Activities.
