A nationally published poet, Mary loved her family, her friends, her farm, her horse Scooter, her students (many in touch since kindergarten), most of her colleagues, Shakespeare, her yoga pals, cruises with “A Prairie Home Companion,” going with Threshold Choir to Bali and singing to the elephants, her farm collie, Haiku, her house cat, Princess, her water garden out the back door, a good gin and tonic and dancing in the kitchen. A lifelong member of the Southern Poverty Law Center and Planned Parenthood, Mary loved this life and life loved her. She died on Nov. 4, 2018.

Elli Bambakidis, who died Oct. 22, 2018, enriched the lives of many and was a true embodiment of the Greek word "Philotimo." Her legacy of warm hospitality and energetic devotion to her family, church, and community will be sorely missed.

Jean Denney, who died on Oct. 6, 2018, served as an assistant director of Disability Services from 2002 through August 2017, when she retired after a 31-year career at Wright State.
Thomas Knapke

Thomas A. Knapke, who died on October 4, 2018, served in various functions at the Western Ohio Branch Campus of Wright State University from 1977 until he retired in 2006. He chaired the Capital Campaign Committee that spearheaded fundraising to renovate the Lake Campus in 2007 and was the driving force to create the first Lake Campus student residential unit in 2010.

Dr. John Ellison, who died on Sept. 11, 2018, in Charlotte, N.C., worked as a librarian in public, school, medical and university settings, including at the Wright State University, where he also was a founding member of the faculty.

John retired in 2015 from Wright State University where he was the director of the Math Learning Center, and had 30 years of experience in math education.

Dr. Brandeberry, who passed away on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, was instrumental in the fundraising and design of the Russ Engineering Center and the Joshi Research Center at Wright State. The WSU Brandeberry Career Development Center is named in his honor.

Celesta Warner, who died Aug. 23, 2018, was an ob/gyn nurse and educator at Miami Valley Hospital as well as a faculty member at Wright State.

Dr. Randall “Randy” S. Paul, who died on Aug. 19, 2018, was a highly respected performer, scholar, conductor and longtime educator. He began teaching at Wright State in 1983.
Paul R. Griffin

Dr. Paul R. Griffin, emeritus professor in the Department of Religion, died Aug. 17, 2018, at Miami Valley Hospital. Dr. Griffin began his career at Wright State in 1988 and, until his retirement in 2010, he taught a variety of courses on Western Christian thought and African American religious history.
