In 45 years at Wright State, Bill was a tenured professor in the College of Liberal Arts, and served as Acting Dean, Associate Dean, and finally as Associate Provost. Many may remember his role as “Lord of the Manor” at the WSU annual Madrigal Dinner for over 30 years. He died on June 3, 2020.

Dr. Friedland’s most lasting contribution to interfaith dialogue came through his leadership in establishing the Ryterband Judaics Symposium, a lecture series co-sponsored by The University of Dayton, United Theological Seminary, and Wright State University. He died Jan. 16, 2020.

A Vietnam veteran, Bill was an avid car racer and mechanic. He was passionate about photography and was a talented musician who played in dance bands and the 44th OVI Civil War Band. He died on Dec. 28, 2019.

Pat was known for his incredible sense of humor and clever wit. This, combined with his love and knowledge of music, film, literature, and baseball, made him a delight to know. He also believed deeply in the inherent goodness of all people and was passionate about opposing discrimination in any form. He died Dec. 3, 2019.

Ed Spanier’s many roles at Wright State included helping to develop the medical school, as well as conceptualizing, managing the building of, and leading the operations of the Nutter Center. Among many other projects, he was especially proud of beginning a day care program for the children of university staff. He died on Nov. 28, 2019.
