CAREER SPEAKER SERIES: ACTUARIAL CAREERS AT CENTRAL INSURANCE
Presenters: Jordan Koehler and Jacob Farr
Company: Central Insurance, an Ohio-based Property & Casualty insurance group of companies founded in 1876.
This presentation will give the students a look into actuarial and data science work at Central Insurance, what the actuarial internship program has to offer for both actuaries and data scientists, and what day to day lives look like as Actuarial & Data Analysts at P&C insurance company.
Bio Sketch:
Jordan Koehler is a Senior Actuarial Analyst with five years of experience in the insurance industry, specializing in personal lines reserving. He enjoys explaining complicated processes in digestible terms, and is passionate about the opportunity to solve old problems with new ideas. Jordan graduated from nearby Wittenberg University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 2018. He currently resides in Columbus, Ohio with his wife and daughter. Jordan is working his way through the actuarial exams, but in his limited free time, he enjoys disc golf, sports betting, and horticulture.
Jacob Farr is a Data Scientist Manager working in the Data Decision Science group at Central focused on pricing models. His educational background is in Chemistry and Analytics and recently switched to the insurance industry. He is driven by the opportunity to discover patterns, behaviors, and other insight from data to build competitive models and solutions for organizations. Jacob graduated from Ohio State with an B.S. and PhD and has an M.S. from Georgia Tech. His wife and two dogs currently reside in Cincinnati where they enjoy running, gardening, and maintaining a queue of travel plans.
