Dear Wright State Community,
We write today to announce that Joylynn Brown has made the decision to step away from her role as Director of Athletics following thoughtful deliberation as she contemplates new professional opportunities.
“It has been an honor to lead Wright State Athletics and work alongside our coaches, staff, and student-athletes. I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished together and the culture we built,” said Brown. “Wright State holds a special place in my heart — it has shaped me both personally and professionally, and I am grateful for the relationships and experiences that will stay with me. I look forward to the next chapter and new opportunities ahead.”
Joylynn has been a valued member of the Wright State community, and we appreciate her leadership and contributions to athletics. She has supported our student-athletes and helped guide our program forward. We wish her much continued success in all that lies ahead.
As a capstone to her tenure, Brown most recently enjoyed a Wright State Men’s Basketball Horizon League Championship and first round NCAA March Madness appearance.
Robert Ray has been placed in the role of Interim Director of Athletics, effective immediately. He will provide leadership and continuity for the department during this transition and will be assisted by MRJ Advisors, an experienced national consulting firm specializing in Division I athletics.
The University has initiated a national search and expects a new Director of Athletics will be selected prior to the start of the fall sports season.
Wright State Athletics remains well-positioned for continued success, with strong leadership across its programs and an ongoing commitment to student-athlete development. We have outstanding athletes, coaches, and staff, and we will continue to pursue excellence across the division.
Best wishes,
Sue
