Please join the Friends of the Wright State University Libraries as we salute our namesake, Paul Laurence Dunbar, turn-of-the-century poet, novelist, playwright and Dayton, Ohio native. Paul Laurence Dunbar is remembered for his work in both dialectic verse and standard English, and was one of the first influential black poets in American literature. Learn about Dunbar’s rise from elevator operator to noted writer in a special presentation and recitation from Dr. Herbert W. Martin, Professor Emeritus, University of Dayton. Dr. Martin is a prolific poet as well, having published eight volumes of poetry and served as a Fulbright Scholar in Hungary in 1990. His editing work includes The Complete Novels of Paul Laurence Dunbar and The Uncollected Dramatic Works of Paul Laurence Dunbar.
Enjoy updates from the Friends of the Libraries and a buffet lunch in the Wright State Nutter Center Berry Room, beginning at 12:00 p.m., April 15th. On the menu: Wright Salad with sliced apples, blue cheese and candied walnuts, herb roasted artichoke chicken, vegetarian lasagna, rosemary roasted red potatoes, roasted mixed vegetables, plus double chocolate cake, fruit pie, assorted breads, iced tea, regular & decaf coffee.
