Join us for another Sociology and Anthropology Department Brown Bag event as Lance Greene, Ph.D., associate professor of anthropology, will present his research on the Battle of Piqua.
Through the Wright State Field School in Archaeology (ATH 4650), Dr. Lance Greene conducts research on the Shawnee town of Piqua (1765–1780) and the Battle of Piqua, a critical battle in 1780 between the Shawnee and American militia. Little is known about Shawnee life during the 18th century, and excavations are designed to describe village life during the era. Excavations also help define the battle, which was a significant but largely forgotten clash that represented aggressive American intrusion onto Shawnee land. The course is also designed to teach students methods in archaeology and in public engagement and education.
