Body Mapping Workshop: What Every Singer Needs to Know About the Body

Course Description:

The course is designed to teach participants how to cultivate freedom and efficiency in singing through Body Mapping. The Body Map is one's self-representation in one's own brain. If the representation is accurate, movement is good. If the representation is faulty, movement suffers in proportion to the inaccuracy. When one's map is corrected, the movement improves. Participants will identify and correct misconceptions about the structures and movements of singing, including those involved in standing and sitting, breathing, phonating, resonating and gesturing. All participants will be actively exploring and remapping. Depending on the size of the group, there may be time for participants to work one-on-one with the instructor in front of the group.

Instructor: Dr. Melissa Malde, University of Northern Colorado School of Music
