University RaiderMail Update-November 9, 2012

Friday, November 9, 2012

Over the past few months, CaTS has been in the process of migrating all university email clients to the new RaiderMail Email system (which is built on Microsoft's Live@edu service). All student accounts have been successfully migrated and all faculty and staff accounts will be migrated by the end of the 2012 calendar year. To date the new services have received very positive feedback from the university community in regards to the improved web interface, messaging/calendaring functionality, email storage space, mobile device support and a number of other new features.

With the adoption of any new enterprise wide service it is safe to assume there will be some minor issues integrating the new services into the university environment. CaTS is making every attempt to identify and quickly resolve issues related to the new RaiderMail services. You can assist with this process by contacting the CaTS Help Desk and reporting any problems that you may encounter with the new services.

As documented in the initial RaiderMail welcome email we are continuing to ask clients to periodically check their new "Junk Email" folder for any messages which may be misclassified as spam. CaTS is continuing work to resolve any problems related to the misclassification of messages. This feature can be disabled through the RaiderMail Online web interface (available via the Email/Calendar icon in WINGS) by clicking on “Options…See All Options…Block or Allow”, then selecting the option for “Don’t move e-mail to my Junk Folder”. Note: if you are using the Outlook desktop client you will still need to check for messages in your Junk Email folder.

For clients who forward their RaiderMail to external email accounts such as Gmail or Yahoo!, and who also send email messages via RaiderMail, please refer to the following link for known issues with this configuration.

CaTS is continuing to work towards making RaiderMail a very successful service and would like to thank those who have provided feedback on the new services.

To report any outstanding problems, or if you would like to request additional information, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 or send an email to helpdesk@wright.edu.

CaTS News: Application of Security Updates to Third-Party Software

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Beginning October 2, 2012, CaTS will begin applying security updates to third-party programs installed on WSU Windows workstations. These third-party applications include the following: Adobe Reader, Adobe Shockwave Player, Adobe Flash Player, Apple QuickTime, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office. These updates will be applied automatically through Windows Update Services.

Previously, CaTS only provided updates to the Microsoft Windows operating system, while third-party updates were the responsibility of the user. Using Windows Update Services to deliver these updates will help reduce malicious activity on WSU workstation and will provide the university with a more secure and stable computing environment.

Also on October 2, CaTS will begin to upgrade all WSU workstations from Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 to Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012.

If you have any questions concerning these changes, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827, or toll free at 1-888-775-4827.

WSU E-mail Service Changes

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

This message is being sent to you because your account has been identified as one which is still accessing "mail.wright.edu" for outgoing e-mail. This could be due to e-mail client settings which have not been updated to use the new RaiderMail service, including settings on mobile or tablet type devices.

Please note that beginning September 12, Wright State University students who have been migrated to the new RaiderMail system will no longer have access to send outgoing e-mail using Wright State's old e-mail services. Students will continue to have access to their old messages through the "mail.wright.edu" and "webmail.wright.edu" websites until these services are no longer available.

For information on updating your e-mail client settings, please refer to the “Setup Instructions” section of the RaiderMail Help and Documentation website. This page includes settings for Windows, Macintosh, and Mobile device e-mail clients. In particular, you must update the client settings for the "Outgoing" or "SMTP Server" settings to use the new RaiderMail system.

If you feel there is an ongoing need to continue using the old e-mail services for submitting outgoing e-mail, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at helpdesk@wright.edu or by calling (937) 775-4827.

Campus Wireless Connectivity Issues 2012-08-30

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Many users are experiencing sporadic issues with wireless connectivity on campus. CaTS has determined that the cause of this problem is a known issue with the Android operating system, in which the Android device can disrupt wireless service for other devices on the same network. A temporary workaround for this issue has been established.

CaTS is asking all campus users with Android devices to visit the following website and perform the listed steps to help alleviate campus-wide issues. Assistance will be available through the CaTS Help Desk if needed.
