Do you knit or crochet or wish you could learn? Do you want to help make a difference in people’s lives on our campus and in the greater community while taking part in a centuries-old tradition of service? Join other WSU faculty, staff, and students at noon each Friday, in 162 Millett Hall.

The circle began in March 2012 and is made up of knitters and crocheters of every level, from beginners who are just beginning to learn (we will teach you if you have never knitted or crocheted before) to those who are experienced. We started out making blanket squares (which we put together to make a whole blanket) and/or whole blankets and donated them to Greene County Children Services and Michael's House, a child advocacy center in Fairborn. In fall term, we also made scarves and hats, along with blankets, and donated them to the Family Violence Prevention Center in Xenia and to Greene County Children Services. We meet every Friday from Noon to 1:00 in 162 Millett. We would love to have you join us, any Friday that you can. If you have supplies, please bring them. If you do not, we will get you started with supplies that have been donated.

How do you navigate from a boat that has no deck (canoe) or a small deck (kayak)? The answer is that we have to prepare ourselves beforehand and apply it to our on-the-water trip. This short workshop will introduce concepts of map and compass, reading and using charts, dead reckoning and navigating, as well as float planning. Dene Berman is an ACA Instructor Trainer who has field experience with Outward Bound, Wilderness Education Association, and Leave No Trace. Every day, in so many ways, the beauty industry (and the media in general) tell women and girls that being admired, envied and desired based on their looks is a primary function of true womanhood. The beauty template women are expected to follow is extremely narrow, unrealistic and frequently hazardous to their health. The Love Your Body campaign challenges the message that a woman's value is best measured through her willingness and ability to embody current beauty standards.

The Women's Center will be spreading positive body messages for men and women on campus. Stop by the Center in 148 Millett Hall to learn more!

Did you ever want to draw on the walls as a kid? Wright State University's annual Draw on the Walls event is your chance to express yourself on an open canvas of 300 feet of white gallery walls.

Each year the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries in the Creative Arts Center opens its doors between exhibitions to give aspiring artists of all ages a chance to put their own work on the walls. The walls are lined with paper, and all sorts of drawing materials are provided—pencils, compressed charcoal and colored sidewalk chalk, among other media.

Bring your inspiration and your own drawing tools if you desire (no aerosol products). Kids are welcome; the artwork is usually G-rated, but parents are cautioned that content on the walls will not be censored.

"We have kids doodling alongside working artists. This is a lot of fun for anyone who wants to see their artwork on a gallery wall," said Tess Cortes, galleries coordinator. "The large format is excellent for trying something new."

Draw on the Walls is a daylong event, after which the paper will be removed, so bring your camera to take a photo of your work. Refreshments will be provided.

Wright State is offering the event to the community in celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month.

The event is supported by individual supporters of the Galleries and the Ohio Arts Council.
