CaTS News: Application of Security Updates to Third-Party Software

Beginning October 2, 2012, CaTS will begin applying security updates to third-party programs installed on WSU Windows workstations. These third-party applications include the following: Adobe Reader, Adobe Shockwave Player, Adobe Flash Player, Apple QuickTime, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office. These updates will be applied automatically through Windows Update Services.

Previously, CaTS only provided updates to the Microsoft Windows operating system, while third-party updates were the responsibility of the user. Using Windows Update Services to deliver these updates will help reduce malicious activity on WSU workstation and will provide the university with a more secure and stable computing environment.

Also on October 2, CaTS will begin to upgrade all WSU workstations from Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 to Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012.

If you have any questions concerning these changes, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827, or toll free at 1-888-775-4827.
