The student employees of the University Center inventoried the books and volunteered their time to conduct the book sale. These students sold books for $1 to $.50 in the Upper Hearth Lounge and raised more than $6,000 for scholarships.
A core group of University Center student employees developed the following award criteria:
- Commitment to their jobs and the Student Union, Event Services, or Campus Recreation offices' mission
- Work above and beyond the call of duty
- Length of employment
- Exceptional leadership or extracurricular involvement that positively enhances their office, Wright State University, and/or the community
- Financial need
As the Student Union has grown and changed, so have the Student Union Offices Achievement Awards. Our group of student employees has grown to nearly 200. The Student Union Offices Achievement Awards have experienced similar growth with three of our accounts reaching endowment status -- one through the generosity of the Gem Music and Vending Company and the Hayes family, who endowed the Dorothy Ward Hayes Award, friends and family of Lorna Dawes endowing the Lorna G. Dawes Scholarship, and staff donations endowing the other. We have also added three awards honoring achievement in adapted sports and
The Student Union Offices Achievement Awards provide scholarships for outstanding student employees. Funds for these scholarships are now raised annually through endowments, alumni contributions, the WSU Campus Scholarship Campaign, as well as through the fund-raising efforts of our Student CQI Team and other hard working student employees.
