Assurance of Learning Committee

The Assurance of Learning Committee (ALC) was established in the fall of 2012 to provide university-wide leadership and coordination for assessing student learning activities to ensure Wright State University students' educational outcomes.

The committee will:

  • Promote engagement in meaningful assessment of student learning activities that reflect good practice, including the substantial participation of faculty, instructional, and other relevant staff members.
  • Oversee, in collaboration with the Faculty Senate Core Oversight Committee, the assessment processes for the Wright State General Education Core, and Writing Across the Curriculum.
  • Provide feedback, suggestions, and recommendations to the provost's office regarding the assessment of student learning and program review processes and professional development needs.
  • Establish cycles for and communicate to their respective areas student learning assessment activities and comprehensive academic program reviews.
  • Provide a forum for sharing information and best practices in the assessment of student learning and continuous improvement.
  • Act as resources in their respective areas to ensure that academic and relevant co-curricular programs have student learning outcome statements, direct and indirect assessment methods and that faculty and staff review results and take actions to improve student learning.
  • Coordinate university assessment processes with the requirements of the Higher Learning Commission and other accreditation agencies.

Membership includes at least one representative from each college, the chair of the Core Assessment Committee, the Faculty Senate President, and representatives from Institutional Research, the Library, Student Affairs, and Student Success.
