A Winter Concert

Rimsky-Korsakov “Russian Easter” Overture

Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 1 “Winter Dreams”

Rimsky-Korsakov portrays a traditional Russian Orthodox Easter celebration in music, complete with solemn chanting priests, richly decorated churches, the pealing of countless church bells and an air of excitement and expectation. Tchaikovsky’s First Symphony, written at age 26, was heavily criticized by his teachers. After some revision, it became one of his most enchanting and melodic works, still not as frequently played as it deserves. The music takes the listener from the cold and gloom of a Russian winter to one of Tchaikovsky’s blazing finales.

Adults tickets are $10. All current and prospective students are FREE.
