From January 25 through March 8, 2009, the Stein Galleries proudly present a memorial exhibition of paintings and drawings by the late Kimmerly Kiser. Kiser was a professor of painting and drawing at Wright State University from 1969 to 1995. He continued teaching as faculty emeritus until his passing in 2006. Showing concurrently will be works by current Department of Art faculty members painter Penny Park and sculptor Stefan Chinov. Chinov joined the faculty in 2007. Works by retired photography professor Ron Geibert will also be on display.

Kimmerly Kiser used the canvas to show ordinary life through art that is by no means common. He described his working process as connecting “closely with the visible by building with pieces of paint until the painting achieves a convincing presence, distinct from the paint itself and in correspondence with some inner state of seeing.” 
Fellow artist Robert Godfrey describes Kiser’s work as transcendental, imbuing the everyday object with “magic and mystery beyond its material existence.” Godfrey’s complete essay is included in the exhibition catalogue, available for purchase during the run of the exhibition. All proceeds from the sale of catalogues will go to the Kimmerly Kiser Memorial Scholarship Fund, supporting visual arts students in the Miami Valley.

An opening reception will be held on January 25, 2009 from4:00-5:30 in the Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries, A132 Creative Arts Center. Showing from January 25 through February 6 in the Experimental Gallery will be works by former students of Kimmerly Kiser. This exhibition and the Kiser exhibition were curated by Diane Fitch, Penny Park and Julie Anderson, who also produced the catalogue.
