AN INTERNATIONAL PRINT EXHIBITION

A Unique Approach to Multiples
The Purdue University Art Galleries’ highly successful exhibition, Global Matrix, returns to Wright State University in its second, and expanded, incarnation in Global Matrix II: An International Print Exhibition. The traveling exhibition serves as a review of contemporary fine art printmaking, encompassing the work of 75 artists from 24 countries from around the world, all told representing 4 continents.
An opening reception will be held January 27th from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries, A132 Creative Arts Center.
The exhibition title refers to the “matrix” inherent in the process of printmaking. The image is cut or carved away from a plate, creating a negative, which is then printed through a variety of methods to create the final, positive image. Printmaking is both a prolific and democratic medium; the variety of media and flexibility of artistic expression available to the printmakers in this exhibition illustrates the depth and beauty of fine art prints.
Wright State University Associate Professor of Art and Art History, Kimberly Vito, and her colleagues at Purdue University, Kathryn Reeves, Professor of Art and Design, and Craig Martin, director of Purdue University Art Galleries, return as the curatorial staff for The Global Matrix II. They are joined by Sean Caulfield, Associate Professor of Art and Design at the University of Alberta.
“Visitors will see a wide range of techniques, such as traditional lithography, intaglio, silkscreen, and relief, as well as, unconventional combination and digital printings,” says Professor Vito. “The subject matter varies between representational landscapes and figures to more innovative image arrangements. “
Wright State University is one of six university galleries receiving the traveling exhibition, which was developed by the Purdue University Galleries, West Lafayette, Indiana.
Global Matrix II is supported by the Friends of the Galleries, Wright State University College of Liberal Arts, and the Ohio Arts Council.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. All events are free and open to the public. Reserved parking for galleries patrons is available in Lot 15.
