    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Where does online tutoring/academic coaching take place and how can I prepare?

Tutors and Peer Academic Coaches hold online sessions on Microsoft Teams. They will send you an email with the link to the online session. Before your session, prepare for your online appointments by reviewing the videos on How to Join MS Teams meeting and Checking-in/out of your appointment. We encourage you to download the desktop version of Microsoft Teams because you will have the best performance, including access to backgrounds. Use your Wright State email and password to log in. Please note that the browsers that work best with Microsoft Teams are Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.

    • Where does face-to-face tutoring/academic coaching take place and how can I prepare?

Tutors and Peer Academic Coaches hold face-to-face sessions in the Student Success Building, 122 SC. We will send you an email with the time and day of the sessions. Before your session starts, check-in using one of the kiosks. One Kiosk is located inside 122 SC, and the other is located at the end of the hall next to the elevators.

    • Do I need to check-in?

Yes, it is important that you check-in and check-out for each of your sessions.

    • How do I cancel my appointment(s)?

When you need to cancel an appointment, you will need to email both wsututor@wright.edu and your tutor as soon as possible. Remember to cancel your appointment at least one hour before the scheduled start time to avoid cancellation of all future appointments.

    • Can I sign up for more than one hour of appointments per course per week?

Students may meet with a Tutor for up to an hour in a day and no more than two hours in a week, schedule permitting.

    • What if my tutor/peer academic coach doesn’t show up or cancels right before the appointment?

If it is 15 minutes after your appointment start time and the tutor/peer academic coach has not shown up or if the tutor/peer academic coach cancels one hour or less before the appointment start time, please email wsututor@wright.edu, or stop by the front desk at 122 SC for further instructions.

    • What is a student no-show for tutor or peer academic coach sessions?

A no-show occurs when a student does not show up within 15 minutes of the appointment start time or cancels one hour or less before the appointment start time. Two consecutive no-shows and three total no-shows per course will result in the cancellation of all of those appointments for the remainder of the semester.

    • What is considered “excessive” cancellations?

Excessive cancellations are when a student cancels on time 2 consecutive or three total times for one course. Cancellations may be for various reasons (i.e., no new material, illness, out-of-town, etc.). If you are found to have "excessive" cancellations, you will be dropped from your appointments for that course.

    • What is considered “excessive early departure”?

Excessive early departures are when a student leaves four appointments 15 minutes or less into their session. This will result in the cancellation of these appointments for the remainder of the semester.

    • What happens to my appointment if I or my tutor/peer academic coach are unable to come due to illness?

If the student or tutor is too ill to attend their sessions, they should not do so and should cancel with as much advanced notice as possible. Please email wsututor@wright.edu or call 937-775-5770 to contact our office.

    • What happens to my appointment if I or my tutor/peer academic coach are unable to come due to mandatory quarantine?

If the student or tutor is too ill to attend their sessions, they should not do so and should cancel with as much advanced notice as possible.

If the tutor or student is healthy enough to work or attend their sessions, their sessions should be transitioned or rescheduled to allow online delivery/attendance, if possible.

    • Can I request appointments with a teammate that's a Tutor or Peer Academic Coach?

Per Wright State Athletics Guidelines, student-athletes who are on the same team may not tutor one another. If you are a student-athlete and see that you have an appointment where your Tutor/Peer Academic Coach is a teammate, you must contact our front desk to be moved to a new Tutor/Peer Academic Coach. If you have questions or concerns about the guidelines regarding student-athletes and tutoring, please reach out to the Athletics Learning Specialist.
