Dear Colleagues,
As we continue to explore innovative ways to enrich our students’ learning experiences, I want to highlight an exciting opportunity for faculty to integrate industry-recognized microcredentials into their courses. These credentials can help students gain practical, career-ready skills while strengthening the value of our academic programs.
If you are interested in learning more or considering how microcredentials might fit into your curriculum, please contact the Provost’s Office. We are here to support faculty in exploring these approaches and connecting you with resources to make implementation seamless.
Microcredentials are becoming an important bridge between higher education and workforce needs, and your engagement can make a significant impact. With your help, we can ensure our students graduate with both academic knowledge and the applied skills employers seek.
Teaching Excellence: Coursera Feature
As part of our partnership with Coursera, faculty have access to high-quality online courses and professional certificates from leading organizations such as Google, Meta, and IBM. Each month we’ll highlight a recommended course designed to support your professional growth and instructional practice. These courses are available at no cost and can be completed asynchronously — whenever your schedule allows.
Uncommon Sense Teaching, Part 2: This second course in the Uncommon Sense Teaching Specialization dives deeper into the neuroscience of learning and classroom dynamics. Explore topics such as neurodiversity, the value of forgetting, habit formation, and the strategic use of rewards. You’ll also learn how to avoid educational fads and leverage lesson planning to support diverse learners. Designed for educators across disciplines, this course offers practical tools to build inclusive learning communities and foster long-term student success.
If you haven’t yet started the specialization, we recommend beginning with Uncommon Sense Teaching, Part 1.
This course is part of our Career Academy+ offerings. Wright State has 100 licenses available, and interested faculty should email Provost@wright.edu to request access. Licenses will be granted as available to complete this course.
Register for our Fall Commencement Ceremonies
Commencement is an event that marks a significant moment in the lives of our students and their families. The granting of a degree and the admission to the “rights and privileges” associated with a given degree are extraordinarily important events for those receiving degrees.
The presence of faculty is especially important to graduates and their families. All faculty should prioritize their attendance, and bargaining unit faculty are reminded of their responsibility under Article 7.4.8.
All faculty are encouraged to attend one or both fall commencement ceremonies in the Wright State Nutter Center. Registration is required and is open now through November 25. Register online.
Graduate Ceremony: Friday, December 12, 7 p.m.
Undergraduate Ceremony: Saturday, December 13, 10 a.m.
Wright State Online Accessibility Essentials
Wright State Online offers a compilation of resources designed to support faculty as they ensure their courses meet accessibility standards. These resources include an interactive course, which takes about 20 minutes to complete, along with comprehensive guides.
Once faculty have completed the Accessibility in Course Design training and updated their content to reflect what they have learned, they are encouraged to submit their content for a digital accessibility review. A member of the WSO team will assess the content and provide feedback on any necessary revisions to ensure accessibility standards are met.
Learn more about Accessibility Essentials Information and review the available accessibility content in the Resource Library.
Submit an Early Alert to Connect Students with Support
Faculty play a critical role in supporting student success by identifying challenges early. If you notice a student who may need extra help, you can raise an early alert through the Slate Student Success Portal, enabling timely interventions from various campus teams. The Slate Student Success Portal can be accessed through WINGS using your Wright State username and password.
When a Student Needs Support
Wright.edu/help is a great resource for helping students or making referrals. This site contains contact information for emergency or essential departments that can assist your students all in one location.
The Student Success Navigator showcases the wide range of resources available to support our students. Whether students are interested in joining a student organization, looking for access to mental health services, playing a sport, or finding a job, all information is available in one central location.
