Case Management Services

Student Advocacy and Resource Center Advocates provide comprehensive, direct case management services to Wright State Students. This means our staff members meet directly with you to discuss any current issues and work alongside you throughout the process to find the best solution possible – whatever that may be. Situations where we provide case management services include, but are not limited to:

Financial Hardship

Experiencing financial hardship is an unfortunate reality for many students. Our team will work alongside you to help you make the best financial decisions. Assistance from SARC for financial hardships can look like:

  • Helping assess and prioritize needs.
  • Help identifying existing and new avenues for support.
  • Provide access to bus tokens/passes once a semester – requires a meeting with an Advocate.
  • Provide access to food resources including local pantries and the Raider Food Pantry.

There are limitations to the services Advocates provide in terms of financial support. For example, we:

  • Cannot provide money outside of access to the Hardship Fund.
  • Cannot provide money for tuition or campus housing.

Academic Problems

Knowing how to access academic support is extremely important for academic success. Our team specializes in linking you with campus resources, including academic resources. Academic support from SARC can look like:

  • Help you finding an academic advisor, success coach, or tutor.
  • Help communicating with professors regarding absences, unforeseen circumstances, or other issues.
  • Attending a professor/academic meeting.
  • Help understanding/accessing academic petitions.
  • Help creating a plan for academic success and other offices.

There are limitations to the services Advocates can provide in terms of academic support. For example, we:

  • Cannot make professors change grades.
  • Cannot make a professor accept late work.
  • Cannot make a professor accept an absence.

Housing Problems

Housing issues can be especially stressful on students, likely negatively impacting academic performance. SAWC can works with you to help find the best housing solutions available. Housing support from SARC can look like:

  • Helping you access community housing resources
  • Providing information on campus housing options.
  • Walking you through housing process, including budgeting.

There are limitations to the services Advocates provide in terms of housing support. For example, we:

  • Cannot provide money for on or off campus housing
  • Cannot provide free emergency housing.

We can help you get access to emergency housing through campus housing, but you will be charged.

Petitions

SARC can support you in submitting academic petitions by walking you through the petition process to make sure you understand everything that is required. You may have to file petitions that require a "letter of support".

These petitions include, but are not limited to, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeals, Undergraduate or Graduate Academic Petitions, or Dependency Appeals.

SARC Advocates may provide a letter of support, or a letter verifying student information/claims in the following situations:

  • You are incapacitated/hospitalized and cannot submit otherwise.
  • You and the Advocate have been working together, and the Advocate feels a letter of support would help your case.

Advocates may NOT provide letters of support/verification in the following situations:

  • You request a letter from an Advocate, but the Advocate has never previously worked with/spoken you and cannot verify student claims.
  • You are appealing again due to not making agreed upon progress.

Even in cases where an Advocate cannot provide a letter of support, they can still help you identify other means of supporting documentation (ex: letters from other professionals, doctors notes, etc.)

In all cases, letters of support or verification are at the Advocates discretion.
