photo of provost amy thompsonDear Colleagues,

If you had the opportunity to participate in last Friday’s Student Success Summit, led by Dr. Amy Salazar, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Her expertise and passion align with our university’s priority of student success, and she was able to provide valuable content. Dr. Salazar shared her keynote presentation slides (PDF), which we will utilize to guide our work as we continue to focus on student success.

Quality Matters Workshops

Beginning in November, the Center for Faculty Excellence will offer several workshops on Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) (7th Edition). During this workshop, faculty will learn the underlying principles behind the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric (7th Edition) and the critical elements of the QM quality assurance process. Participants will also draft helpful recommendations for applying the rubric to an actual course and apply the concept of alignment and draft recommendations for course improvement.

The effective instructional design principles apply to all learning environments (face-to-face, online, and blended learning) and are intended for faculty, administrators, and staff when designing and developing courses or when considering the adoption of a quality assurance process for online and hybrid learning.

The APPQMR one-day, eight-hour session is a prerequisite for the Peer Reviewer Course, which is required to become a QM peer reviewer.

Statewide Transfer Initiatives

As a public institution, we are committed to fostering a culture of transfer and participating in all statewide transfer guarantee programs. Our 3 Rs (Recruitment, Retention, and Relationships) guide us to take full advantage of transfer credits as key strategies to recruit and retain students. President Edwards and I fully support the spirit of the statewide program through Ohio Transfer Promise. To play our part, we have submitted courses that meet established statewide course learning outcomes. With increased re-evaluation of courses and revised criteria at the state level in recent years, we are constantly striving for 100% participation and approval.

Submissions can be made on a rolling basis, but the submission deadlines only come twice a year: September 15 and February 15. Our goal is to be as close to 100% participation for four key statewide transfer programs by the end of spring 2025: Ohio Transfer 36 (OT36), Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs), Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAGs), and Industry-Recognized Credential Transfer Assurance Guides (ITAGs).

The Provost’s Office is responsible for ensuring our institutional participation, pertinent to the Ohio Revised Code 3333.61. Please contact Hideo Tsuchida, director of articulation, transfer, and institutional partnerships, at hideo.tsuchida@wright.edu or 937-775-2123 for submission questions and templates.

Faculty Success Reporting System Now Available

Faculty Success, a data reporting system, is now available to all faculty members. Log in using your Wright State credentials, including your campus username and associated password. Once logged in, select Faculty Success from the initial screen.

Introductory training sessions are now available. You can find registration dates and times at wright.edu/office-of-the-provost/faculty-affairs/user-training. While training is not required, it is strongly recommended to help you better understand what content you must enter in Faculty Success.

Faculty required to submit their information for annual review are required to use Faculty Success. The information entered in this system aligns with what has been required on Faculty Activity Reports, which Faculty Success replaces. Information for annual reviews is due by January 31, 2024.

For general questions, contact FacultySuccessQuestions@wright.edu. More information is also available on the Faculty Success website.

Commencement

Commencement is an event that marks a significant moment in the lives of our students and their families. The granting of a degree and the admission to the “rights and privileges” associated with a given degree are extraordinarily important events for those receiving degrees.

The presence of faculty is especially important for the graduates and their families. All faculty should prioritize their attendance and bargaining unit faculty are reminded of their responsibility under Article 7.4.8.

All faculty are encouraged to attend one or both ceremonies in December. Registration is required and is open now through November 27. Register online.

Graduate Ceremony: Friday, December 15, 7:00 p.m.

Undergraduate Ceremony: Saturday, December 16, 10:00 a.m.

When a Student Needs Support

Wright.edu/help is a great resource for helping students or making referrals. This site contains contact information for emergency or essential departments that can assist your students all in one location.

I hope you all have a wonderful week! You are appreciated!
