On Sunday, April 3rd, from 1-5pm in Wright State University's Nutter Center, UCIE will be hosting the 32nd Annual Wright State International Festival, formerly known as the International Friendship Affair (IFA).  The long-term success of this festival shows the on-going commitment by WSU to international programs.  This year is the first time it is being held at Nutter Center as it has become the largest international event on campus.  International programs help bring the world to our campus and we are proud to be able to share our international student talents, cultures, and experiences with you and the Dayton community.  Be sure to try the different tastes of the world through one of our food vendors or beverages including a variety of international beers.  Travel the world with your "Wright State International Passport" and meet students from all over the world.  Enjoy our performers and if you have families, stop by the new Kid's Zone.  UCIE has received many departmental sponsors and engaged community support to bring this event to you.  We hope to see you on Sunday, April 3rd, as we celebrate Innovations Around the World

1. Please introduce yourself.

I am Sara Gharabaghi and I am from Tabriz, the largest city in the Northwest of Iran. I have completed my BSc and MSc in my home country. My husband and I decided to continue our education in the U.S. We moved here in 2012. Currently, I am a PhD student in Computer Science at Wright State University. My research mainly focuses on Medical Image Processing and Analysis.

2. In what ways are you involved on campus?

I have tried to be a small part of the activities on campus. I like to know about other cultures and introduce our rich culture to people from other countries. Every year, my Iranian friends and I participate in the Wright State International Festival to present our country. Also, we have collaborated with UCIE to celebrate Iranian New Year, Norooz. Furthermore, I have been the Vice President for Campus Affairs of the Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) since Fall 2015. GSA is a student organization for supporting and promoting research and professional development for graduate students.

3. What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to be graduated by Spring 2018 and work as a researcher in academia or industry.

Students Abroad: Jaclyn Schmitz

Meet Jaclyn Schmitz, a French major at Wright State who is currently studying abroad in Angers France for an entire year through our exchange program!

Jaclyn is studying at the Université Catholique de l'Ouest. This unique exchange program offers Wright State students the unique opportunity to take intensive French language courses at various levels at a French university for a full immersion experience.

Jaclyn is taking French language courses that will count towards her major here and has been doing so well in them. She also chose to stay with a homestay family while there and tells us that she is having a great time.
