Note Taking Express is a third-party service that provides a set of professional typed notes from a live subject specialist Note Taker.  Students record and upload lectures using the free Note Taking Express app on a smartphone. This service assigns a consistent note taker throughout the semester for the course, allows the user to upload photos of any visual materials from the lecture, or even upload power-points or videos shown in class.

Welcome Message

Some students registered with ODS are provided a note taker in certain classes as an accommodation for a documented disability. We have recently switched to utilizing the Notetaking Express (NTE) to fulfill this need. The service allows for in-class recording of class lectures and discussions as well as transcription of the recorded content into a note format. Use of Notetaking Express will allow for instant access to class recordings and access within 48 hours to transcribed notes. You will no longer have to wait for a peer note taker to be found for your courses.

If you are granted note taking as an accommodation, you are automatically provided with a Notetaking Express account. You will receive an email with additional information on how to access your account. Prior to using the NTE service in class, you will also need to digitally submit a audio recording agreement in AIM.

The NTE software is accessible and convenient, giving you the option of using a cell phone app available for Android and iPhone users or through your NTE dashboard on a computer. Alternatively, you can also use any recording device you prefer, but should be aware that the quality of results may vary. You may request to check out an audio recorder from the ODS.

In cases where the use of the Notetaking Express is not effective in capturing the notes for a class, you may work with your instructor to request a volunteer peer note taker for the course. Please contact your ODS case manager if you have concerns about the quality or speed at which you are receiving your notes.
