William Kan ‘16, Music Performance (Percussion)

“I am extremely grateful to Wright State and its donors for opening the door to the world of music to me through these scholarships and the many other opportunities that were available to me.”

Tell us more about you and your life, your profession, and your successes.

I grew up in Cleveland loving to listen to the music of the games I played as a kid. Eventually, I wanted to play music too and I was led to the drums. I came to Wright State not entirely sure what I wanted to do as a musician but I discovered a lot of orchestral music and now I study that repertoire in order to play in a full-time orchestra. I have held some small regional orchestra positions and am now trying to win my first big job while I pursue my master’s degree in addition to playing with many orchestras in whatever state I am in.

What is your favorite Wright State memory?

Receiving my first job offer during my senior year while in the practice room. I would not have been able to accomplish that without the training I received as a student at Wright State.

What did receiving the ARTSGALA Scholarship mean to you?

I am extremely grateful to Wright State and its donors for opening the door to the world of music to me through these scholarships and the many other opportunities that were available to me.
