"The ARTSGALA scholarship allowed me to take the first step towards my career."

Tell us more about you and your life, your profession, and your successes.

After attending Wright State, I went on to receive my master's degree in teaching for museum education at the George Washington University where I interned and later worked for the National Building Museum as the tour coordinator. I returned to Ohio in 2013 and took a tour coordinator position at the Taft Museum of Art in Cincinnati. After two years as the tour coordinator, I was promoted to manager of youth and family programs. I have created new programs for preschoolers, Girl Scouts, and youth and have helped build a more family-friendly tone into the Taft’s exhibitions through creating interpretation for each show. The visual literacy skills I learned through Wright State's film program combined with my museum education training have allowed me to create fun and engaging opportunities for families at the museum.

What is your favorite Wright State memory?

Seeing my classmates present their films at doc night was amazing. The growth and skill they showed in their ability to tell stories through film made it a great night.

What did receiving the ARTSGALA scholarship mean to you?

Receiving the scholarship allowed me to take an internship at the Naval Historical and Heritage Command in Washington, D.C. the summer between my junior and senior year. During this internship I was introduced to museum education and decide to return to pursue my master's degree in that field. The ARTSGALA scholarship allowed me to take the first step towards my career.
