Amanda Gray ’14, Music Education

“I wanted to say a special thank you to everyone involved with ARTSGALA! It really means a lot to see so many people coming out to support students doing what they love to do!”

Tell us more about you and your life, your profession, and your successes.

After graduating from Wright State, I accepted a job in a small town in interior Alaska; it was one of the most exciting adventures of my life! Little did I know, I would end up in the perfect place for me.  Fast forward 5 years and I am still teaching elementary and middle school music in the same district, surrounded by a supportive community, and with students who bring so much love to our music program.  I am extremely proud of the growth that I have seen in my students over the past 5 years and I can’t wait to see where they will go from here. And finally, I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in education design and technology.  My program will be completed in the summer of 2020!

What is your favorite Wright State memory?

Performing at basketball games and leading the Pep Band while the director was on a studio trip to Greece! Pep Band was my favorite ensemble to perform in and leading the group for 2 weeks was so much fun for me; not to mention a fantastic stepping-stone into student teaching.

What did receiving the ARTSGALA Scholarship mean to you?

I didn’t receive much financial support from home during my time at Wright State, so I was extremely appreciative of any opportunity to help ease the financial burden.  I know that without the scholarships I received, I would be in so much more debt right now.  Every scholarship really made a huge difference.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

ARTSGALA was always such a fun evening and I’m exciting to be a part of the 20th year celebration.  I wanted to say a special thank you to everyone involved with ARTSGALA!  It really means a lot to see so many people coming out to support students doing what they love to do!
