Dear Colleagues,
Timing is critical when it comes to student success. As you know, we are piloting the optional process for faculty to submit midterm grades this semester so students can assess where they stand in your course. Issuing midterm grades is a high-impact practice for student success and provides our faculty and our student success staff the ability to provide meaningful interventions that give our students ample time to course-correct if they are in academic difficulty. After midterm grades are issued, academic advisors and success coaches will reach out to students with deficiency grades to help facilitate a plan of action. Our students have said they are eager to receive midterm grades, which underscores the seriousness they take in their academic identity.
Instructors may report midterm grades via Pilot or WINGS Express now through noon on Wednesday, October 12. The reporting method is the same as reporting final grades, except there will be an additional option for midterm grades. All students receiving midterm grades will also receive follow-up emails from Student Success and advising staff, offering access to appropriate student support, tutoring, or just giving a pat on the back for a job well done.

As this is a new initiative, we want your feedback so we can improve the faculty experience. A survey will go out to all instructors during the week of October 24. Students will also be surveyed on their experiences with midterm grading.

We appreciate the feedback given regarding the search for the director of adult and online learning. We will be continuing this search in hopes of finding the appropriate candidate. An updated job description for this position will be posted soon.

- Dayton Area Graduate Studies Institute (DAGSI) will host a DAGSI/SOCHE workshop at Wright State on October 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This will be available in person in 101 NEC or on Webex.
If you are involved with DAGSI, it is important to attend in person, if possible. As Wright State is the host institution, we encourage all interested faculty to attend.
