About the Speaker

Sonia Jackson Myles is the founder & author of The Sister Accord, The Promise That Will Transform Your Life!™ which has become a global movement centered on the power of loving, trusting and loyal relationships in transforming every aspect of the lives of girls and women.

Sonia is a summa cum laude graduate of Florida A&M University (FAMU), and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and an MBA with a concentration in Marketing. She was named one of Essence magazine's 25 Women of Power in 2008, was selected as a History Maker by Bloomberg News in 2009, and was awarded the Trumpet Award Foundation's Women in High Heels Award & FAMU President's Award in 2010.

At the conclusion of the Stopping School Violence Panel, the audience joined Sonia in reciting The Sister Accord. It was a powerful, emotional, and memorable moment for all in attendance.

In 2011, Sonia was named one of Black Enterprise Magazine's Top Executives in Marketing & Advertising and was inducted into FAMU School of Business & Industry's Hall of Fame. In 2012, she was named one of FAMU's 125 Outstanding Alumni and in 2013, she was nominated for an NAACP Image Award in the Debut Author category and was given The Gillette Legacy Award.  During that same year, Sonia also received The Exemplary Achievement Award from The State of Ohio Senate (the highest honor The Senate Of The General Assembly of Ohio gives, with the exception of honors given to military persons who have passed away).  In early April, 2014, she was hand-selected by Florida A&M University's first female President, Dr. Elmira Mangum, to serve on her President's Alumni Advisory Board on Athletics (PAABA).

As a successful corporate purchasing executive with over 20 years of experience (managing a cumulative total of nearly $20B during the span of her career) she is a renowned thought leader on diversity issues and mentors many, including corporate executives and minority and women-owned businesses. Myles is also an advocate for youth and women, and has worked diligently for decades to encourage and inspire both groups through the creation of mentoring and professional development programs.

In 1995, she developed the F.A.M.S Program at Cody High School, an inner-city public school in Detroit, to give students career opportunities in the automotive industry. The program's primary focus was to teach critical professional development skills ranging from oral and written communication to resume writing and interviewing. The program also focused on life skills via workshops such as The Importance of Self-Esteem and The Importance of Integrity, which enabled the students to effectively compete for scholarships and internship opportunities.

Her passion for service has led her to serve as the chairperson of (FAMU) Sybil C. Mobley School of Business & Industry Advisory Board. Additionally, she serves as a trustee for Impact Young Lives--which supports students in South Africa with education opportunities, and was selected to serve on espnW's Advisory Panel. espnW's mission is to serve, inform, and inspire female athletes and sports fans. She is also a member of the Disney's Dreamers Academy Speakers Resource Group, and is a past board member for Women Helping Women, an organization that assists survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

As a well-known inspirational speaker, she has spoken at numerous events for girls & women, schools, universities, colleges, and churches throughout the nation. She was also a panelist at the 2010 Essence Music Festival and presented The Sister Accord at the Essence Women's Leadership Conference and Disney's Dreamers Academy. Sonia recently launched her Leadership Development consulting practice with the "Great Leaders Have Great Relationships Series©" and her "Dreamwalking©" seminars designed to assist people with bringing their dreams to life in an effective and efficient manner.

Myles is the author of The Sister Accord: 51 Ways To Love Your Sister© and is a loving and dedicated wife and mother of two sons, Kendall, 19 and Jordan, 18.

Sonia's mantra is "There is always a seat at the table for excellence; focus on being excellent."
