Did you know that violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity was not federally categorized as a hate crime until 2009?!

Older adults identifying as LGBTQ have lived most of their lives during a time when violence and discrimination against LGBT individuals was tolerated or even socially acceptable.  Even in the clinical setting, this generation experienced harm through repetitive medical display, forced treatment, or has suffered physical trauma as a result of undergoing “normalizing” surgeries.

A panelist of patients from the elderly LGBTQA community will share their personal stories and experiences with health care. Join Pride on March 8, from 12:15-1:15 p.m., in Gandhi 101, to learn about the stigma, safety concerns, and health disparities that still affect this population today.
