January 10, 2024 - Forward Momentum

photo of provost amy thompsonDear Colleagues,

Welcome back! I hope you had a chance to rest during the winter break and that you’re eager to start the Spring Semester. I know I am. The students are so excited to be in your classrooms and learn from you. The Chronicle published an excellent article last week on the importance of the first day of class. I encourage you to visit the Center for Faculty Excellence’s resources webpage for additional helpful articles.

During weeks 1 and 2 of the semester, faculty are required to submit participation rosters for their classes. The data collected by these reports is required for any institution that receives Title IV funding. FAQs and a tutorial video are available.

Lastly, the College of Graduate Programs and Honors Studies will host a New Student Orientation this Friday, and all faculty and staff are welcome to attend the social event immediately following at 5 p.m. in the Student Union Apollo Room. I encourage you to visit and meet our new graduate students as well as the regional employers who will also attend.

Slate Student Success to Replace RAPS (EAB Navigate)

The university plans to transition from Raider Academic Progress System (RAPS) to Slate Student Success by July 1, 2024.

This transition will support improved integration with campus systems, such as Banner and Pilot, and extend our ability to gain data insights through the Slate CRM now supporting admissions.

The initial phase of implementation will focus on replacing activities currently carried out in RAPS, including academic advising, tutoring, early alerts, and case management. Subsequent phases will add functionality to enhance communication and engagement with students.

Graduate Programs Open House

The Graduate Programs Open House will take place on Thursday, February 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Student Union Apollo Room. Many of you will be at the event recruiting new students. Thank you! If you are not volunteering, please stop by and meet some prospective students.

When a Student Needs Support

Wright.edu/help is a great resource for helping students or making referrals. This site contains contact information for emergency or essential departments that can assist your students all in one location.

I hope you all have a wonderful week! You are appreciated!
