[OFFICIAL-L] Academic Efficiency and Effectiveness Review

Dear Colleagues,

During the June 16, 2023, meeting of the Wright State University Board of Trustees, the board charged the Office of the Provost with thoroughly evaluating the university’s academic programs to identify their relative effectiveness and efficiency with the goal of supporting more strategic resource allocation. The Board of Trustees further specified that the evaluation be completed during the Fall Semester of 2023, with a final report delivered to the board on December 14, 2023.

In response to this charge, I have formed an Executive Committee to oversee a review process. The Executive Committee has also formed a Review Committee to assist with evaluating our academic programs and making recommendations for further consideration.

Individuals invited to serve on the Review Committee represent faculty, staff, and administrators across the university. These individuals were carefully chosen for their ability to prioritize the interests of our university and its stakeholders above personal considerations, and for the specific experience, expertise, skills, and competencies they would bring to this important team.

Led by Vice Provost Bruce Mackh, the Review Committee is tasked with evaluating and categorizing programs for further consideration by the Executive Committee. Their findings will ultimately be presented to me before I report to the Board of Trustees.

Subsequent communications will include additional details as we move forward.

Respectfully yours,

Amy Thompson, Ph.D.
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
