December 6, 2023 - Forward Momentum

photo of provost amy thompsonDear Colleagues,

As we enter the final two weeks of the Fall Semester and I reflect on the academic year thus far, I am amazed at the progress we have accomplished and the important work we are undertaking together. It becomes more apparent each month that we are truly working toward goals that will increase President Edwards’ Three Rs and continue to position our university as a pillar of regional growth and success. I thank you for your candidness and willingness to participate in the many conversations about growth, while always focusing on what is best for our university and, most importantly, our students.

Fall Semester Final Grades

Final grading opens for all fall 2023 classes on Monday, December 11. While final grades are due by noon on Wednesday, December 20, we encourage faculty to submit their grades as soon as possible to ensure the Registrar’s Office has time to process grades before Winter Break, which begins on December 22.

Please log in to WINGS Express to verify that grades have been submitted successfully for each of your classes. Information about the current grading system and policy is available on the Grading System webpage.

Center for Faculty Excellence

A presentation from Monday Morning Mentors, “How Can I Become a Better Online Instructor,” is available through Sunday, December 10. The presentation includes five practical strategies aimed at increasing instructor satisfaction and strengthening rewarding learning experiences for students. Learn more (PDF).

You can access the presentation, transcript, handouts, and supplemental material at mondaymorningmentors.com. Enter instructor842 in the password box.

Spring 2024 Equity Champions Applications Due Friday

Wright State Equity Champions is offering an opportunity for anyone who teaches at least one class of 10 or more students during Spring Semester to join our community of practice. Any faculty or staff member committed to making evidence-based changes in their courses that improve student outcomes by focusing on belonging, social connectedness, identity safety, and growth mindset is eligible to apply. These outcomes include both success in the current class and retention through college.

Those eligible to apply include TET, NTE, adjunct, staff, and campus leaders (i.e. chairs, associate deans, etc.) at the Dayton and Lake Campuses who are teaching at least one course in spring 2024.

Equity Champions will participate in a semester-long community of practice wherein instructors learn together, share ideas, and work together to develop resources for supporting equity in their classes. This takes place largely online with weekly small group discussions. Download the flyer for more details (PDF).

Please apply online by Friday, December 8. Contact Peggy Kelly, Faculty Fellow for Pedagogy in the Center for Faculty Excellence, at peggy.kelly@wright.edu with any questions.

First Destination Survey

The First Destination Survey, which collects students’ post-graduation plans, is available for students graduating at the end of Fall Semester. Information shared in the survey becomes part of a composite portrait of Wright State. The responses help us assess our impact on student success, recruit prospective students, and fulfill requests from organizations that accredit or rank our programs.

Please encourage your soon-to-be graduates to complete this important survey. The survey remains open in Handshake for five months after the student graduates. Learn more:
