Weak oscillatory seismic tremors (microtremors) are observed in some very different geological settings. Some are the result of surface waves causing a resonant tuning of shear waves within a near-surface layer, some are observed to originate deep within subduction zones, and some appear to correlate with oil & gas reservoirs. Ernest Hauser, Associate Professor in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Wright State will present aspects of his research on microtremors: how they are observed and studied, and their likely origins.
