Current WSU anthropology and biology student, Tyler Heneghan, will be presenting his summer experience working on a National Science Foundation funded archaeological excavation in the Lower Illinois River Valley. Tyler was 1 of 10 students selected from around the country to participate on the excavation of a 700 year old Native American village, where he encountered man-made mounds, fortification structures, pottery, animal remains, and projectile points (arrowheads). As part of the NSF fellowship, he is conducting research to investigate regional warfare using the projectile points and the blood residues within them. Tyler will present the research in November at the Midwest Archaeological Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but will be giving us a preview of this research at the event. We hope you will join us!
