1) The committee approved the minutes of the December 5, 2012 meeting

2) The committee review three variations of a proposed excused absence policy including a policy covering a broad range of types of excused absences, a policy forward by the Veterans and Military-Connected Student Committee focused on students with military obligations and a policy forward by the University Athletic Council addressing a range of excused absences including those related to university sponsored activities. UCAPC was not in favor of the first proposal because it was too broad and could be misinterpreted by students. After discussion, the committee was in agreement that a policy that covers military students was appropriate and several modifications to the policy proposed by the Veterans and Military-Connected Student Committee were discussed. The committee agreed to review a revised version of the policy at the next meeting.

3) The committee reviewed a proposed cross-listed course policy. Modifications were suggested to clarify the types of formal cross-listings. The proposed policy also included an informal cross-listing mechanism termed “meets-with course”. The representatives from COLA noted that there were problems with the proposed definition, and they agreed to modify the proposal and bring it back to the committee at the next meeting.
