Charlayne Hunter-Gault
"From Jim Crow America to South Africa Apartheid and Beyond:  A Journalist's Journey "

Monday, January 31, 2011

Charlayne Hunter-Gault, one of the world's most distinguished journalists, describes how she grew up in a segregated society and what enabled her to successfully challenge the decades old Southern laws that were created to keep her and all black people "in their place."  She traces the path her life took, from her childhood dream of becoming "Brenda Starr"; to achieving her own successful journalism career in magazines, newspapers, and television; to departing the U.S. to South Africa to chronicle the familiar yet unique end of apartheid and segregation there. Finally, she describes why she is still out there, attempting to bring "new news" to peoples the world over, through the various forms of media she has mastered--print, radio, television, and the blogosphere.
