Open forum to discuss a fee-based Personal Assistance station on campus
Friday, February 24
4–5 p.m.
008 Student Union (Rathskeller)

Like all of the departments on campus, the Office of Disability Services (ODS) has been asked to reduce its operating expenses. As part of this process, ODS has carefully made cuts in areas that have minimal impact to its services.

As many on campus know, the ODS Personal Attendant station is one of the supports ODS provides its students at no cost. Wright State operates the only PA Station at a four-year college or university in the nation. The cost of operating the PA station is one area being explored—whether adding a flat semester fee for each student using the service to help offset the annual expenses to operate the station would allow ODS to create a sustainable model of support.

Contrary to popular belief, ODS does not receive any federal or state dollars that are directed to cover any of our disability services. ODS has worked to provide a process to gather input from students regarding the PA station and how best to cover its operating expenses.

As a result, ODS is hosting an open forum to discuss having a fee based PA station. The open forum will be February 24, 2017, 4–5 p.m., in 008 Student Union (Rathskeller). ODS plans to share the results of the student input while allowing for further feedback and discussion around the existing concerns. This open forum was purposely scheduled on the day before spring break so the parents of the students who have concerns could be included.

ODS welcomes anyone from our campus community to participate in the forum.
