Led by Melissa Spirek, Ph.D., Professor, Communication.  The purpose of this session is to offer a tool kit of techniques to challenge conceptual ruts that can emerge when repeatedly teaching the same course for years if not for decades. I draw upon the cognitive literature of Drs. John Green, Tom Berndt, Alice Eagly and Allan Wicker while sharing the list that helps to keep the classes I teach fresh for me as the teacher. Attendees will leave with a concrete list of factors that can be used to help professors reexamine the conceptualizations and operationalizations of their learning objectives. The focus of this session is the instructor and although all are welcome, those teaching at least 10 years in particular are targeted. Attendees are encouraged to bring their experiences with a class that they have taught at least ten times.
