Dayton Regional STEM School Art Reception & Auction
During the month of March, the Charles & Renate Frydman Educational Resource Center (ERC, 116 Allyn Hall) will display posters created by Dayton Regional STEM School (DRSS) tenth grade students as part of their recent study of conflicts and genocides. This unit is a collaboration between World History teacher Arch Grieve and Language Arts teacher Jenn Reid, who are leading this project for the fourth year. About 45 pieces of artwork will be on display this year. They highlight the Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust, the recent conflict in Bosnia, the tensions between Israel and Palestine, and the United Nation's action/inaction regarding these last two conflicts.
In previous years, the student posters have been on display at the Dayton Peace Museum, Wright State University, and the Dayton Art Institute. This year, the students wanted to be proactive to help alleviate problems caused by genocide and conflict. They decided to auction their artwork, with the proceeds going to UNICEF. The ERC is pleased to serve as host for the DRSS Art Auction and Reception, to be held on Tuesday, March 11th, from 5:00pm-6:00pm. Enjoy some light snacks, meet some of the student artists, and bid on artwork that speaks to you. We hope you will join us!
